Drowning in coffee

the final video

" Caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant of the methylxanthineclass.[10] It is the world's most widely consumed psychoactive drug.[11] "

About resorting to abusing substances as a way to escape reality. Sometimes this new reality is incompatible with environment you are in. The video is examining this concept with case of coffee in an isolated environment. The appeal of caffeine in an escapist context would be that it stimulates the production of adrenaline: a survival mechanism that triggers the fight- or flight response. Which drives you to get out of the current situation. But what happens if you cannot express this response? It might overwhelm you with stimuli you cannot express. Feeling like you are drowning.

Experiments

The first experiment trying to capture the space inside of the coffee. It is a video of a coffee cup projected onto a 3d sphere. This virtual 3d object now rotates in the front and around the camera so you can look inside of the object.
Then i tried some visual effects to better reflect the feeling of the soundscape. The connection to coffee becomes more abstract from here...

From here i decided to actually film the coffee from inside with a water proof camera.

I am filming the coffee pot from inside with a waterproof camera and recording the audio with my phone.

I decided to use the audio recorded by the internal microphone of the camera inside the coffee pot, instead of using the soundscape or the recording from the phone. This sound is super noisy and really intense but it captures the experience of drowning a lot better and it also more convincing because it is the actual sound.
