During the quarantine the first weeks were quite different for me, it took some time to adjust to everything and working from home wasn't always as easy for me as working in school. Once the theme's really started going it started to become a bit easier for me, especially once we had two weeks for each theme. This was because I could think more about the projects instead of just outputting things quickly. During this quarantine I decided to try new things and I ended up trying Pinhole photography & Digital Pinhole photography. I also started experimenting with both of the AI that I found on GitHub and had a great lot of fun working on those side projects.
During my Schouw presentation I will show
Here are the works that all that I chose to show on this final page. It includes the three themes, A sims projects from the Friday class, own side projects and an Animation I made for Fundamentals. All of which I will explain more into individually.
During the theme Resistance I really wanted to do something with the physical aspect of resistance. For example the Gravity and it's influences on nature. Or how friction between a tire and the road & the influence of wind onto a car.
A good example of this is the parachute which slows down the terminal velocity of a which a human would "free" fall.
Eventually I decided I wanted to do something different and I got more interested in this aspect with light. I thought of ways to resist the amount of light onto paper or to maybe influence the way this light gets shown. This ended up with me thinking of Pinhole photography in which I decided to build one myself (see reference 1) Eventually this sadly didn't really work out how I wanted to, So I decided to take a new approach with a digital pinhole camera and a smartphone pinhole camera (see reference 2 & 3) which gave me exciting new visual output that I wasn't expecting at all and which I found really interesting. This ended up being my final result.
During the theme Escapism I we had to make sounds in mike's classes, this was/is something I'm quite unfamiliar with and creating sounds/audio, working with audio programs was something that is new to me. Which is also really interesting because every time I went to create something, something completely different came out of it. This I found super interesting because and I just decided to experiment in most of these sounds and see where I end up.
I learned a lot during this process and this is why I also want to include it into my presentation.
Changing perspectives was one of the first project I did in quarantine. Changing perspective for me was all about how an imagine it's colors influence the emotion you feel when watching it. For example red could very much be seen in an angry way but also in a way of affection. I also really wanted to try and experiment a bit more wit how to manipulate an image using a various digital tools.
During this time I was still very much adjusting to the situation and a lot was still uncertain of-course and this for me took a bit of time.
Museum in The Sims 4. A series of YouTube videos connected through embeds that allow you to walk through the museum and see it from different angles depending on the route of your choice. The museum’s theme is: Echo and the work displayed are connected to this theme. The museum itself also adds to this experience with the way it is thought out and built to enhance this experience.
We started of with by getting inspiration from a Fortnite event, in which Travis Scott performed and concert within Fortnite which everyone could see and join. We really liked the idea that one could move and control a character and kind of be at an event even though you're physically not there. With this in mind we decided to create an sims world which would include our museum which could be viewed and watched. While being in control of where you're going and what you want to view.
We thought about doing our own museum in Unity, but this was very slow and frustrating because it became more about annoying technical difficulties rather than having fun with the concept.
Our theme is ECHO which for us means: A reflection or a physical echo of something or someone, or an echo of a sound. With this in mind we created a museum with mirror where by each exposition you could only see one work at the time or by using the mirrors seeing and echo of one or two works. This was done by creating a circular museum in which a Triangular Prism is used to display the works upon.
I had come across various interesting AI's, in a former project before quarantine I was working with noise cancelling. I was still very much interested in other option and decided to just wanted to try things out and see what happens in my spare time.
with this experiment I used the AI DAIN to process a video,It tries to add extra frames by using an AI which is constantly learning. It makes of each frame a PNG file and then tries to generate interpolated frames. This together with the original frames are editten together to create this 50fps version of the original video which I added .
I used Avatar The Last Airbender a Final Agni Kai for this projects since I found this scene as a child and still now very nice. I had recently come across it again and had a lovely time. This is also an animation which is a little bit lighter for the AI. Even with a very strong computer this takes a lot of time and power.
Here it is quite the same story, I had come across is previously and now had spare time to try it out and test it, This AI is fed a big amount of video of which is recognizes the faces and makes individual images of that. The more data it gets the more accurate the facial replacements are.
Since it requires a lot of images to learn it was a smart decision for me to take someone who is a lot on screen. So I decided to Nicolas Cage and Taylor swift since there are a lot of videos of them. The decision was also a bit for the "meme".
For this fundamentals assignment we had to work with After Effects. We had to read a text called: Designed Screens by Paul Elliman. I really like drawing it is something that works relaxing for me and is very enjoyable. I came up with a concept/story that I wanted to share I had an image in mind that I wished to tell and decided I wanted to draw this myself manually.
The story is about a feeling one gets when you stressed/frustrated. The idea of physically "falling" and the reach for help.
I wanted to do this right and while having a lot of fun and drawing a bit more. I really enjoyed this project.
